The Historical Timeline of Facebook from 2004 till 2012
A lot has happened since the birth of the social networking site, Facebook in February 2004 within a Harvard dorm room. It expanded and gained one million active users by the end of the same year of its creation.
Many of us know that Facebook used to be called “The Facebook” in the early days of this social network, but did you know that “the” was not dropped for an entire year? It wasn’t until August of 2005 that Facebook became its official name.
2005 was a crucial year for growth since it gained six million active users that December when just the year before it gained (only) a million, increasing its size drastically. This allowed the startup social network to expand even further by 2006, it was then that the picture uploading feature and share button where first introduced.
By the end of 2006 Facebook doubled in growth by reaching 12 million active users, now making it half way to today, it was this year, that the newsfeed was added onto the Facebook platform and as you can see Facebook was steadily growing.
The amazing phenomenon that we know as the most popular social network, Facebook, has had its own timeline long before they ever implemented them unto our Facebook profiles and pages. Their growth is inspiring for many social startups, especially those looking to create the next social giant.
Facebook has had many up’s and down’s much like any other business, yet they always seem to prevail. Now having eight years of existence under its belt, it remains continually growing with currently over a billion active users on its platform.
