Popular URL Shortener, Bit.ly has been Banned on Facebook
UPDATE: It seems as though this occurrence of banning the URL Shortener, Bit.ly has been lifted. Although, it has yet to be posted, the ability to use bit.ly on Facebook does not create the below pop-up any longer. Either Facebook lifted it, or it was a glitch in their system.

There are many URL shorteners that people who like to share links use to help keep sharing content looking neat and tidy on Facebook. Many of these URL shorteners stem from the creation of Twitter with having status updates being shorter than 140 characters.

Today, many Facebook users may awake to a surprise; one of the most popular URL shorteners has been blocked on Facebook. The well-known and normally trusted form of shortened URL’s; bit.ly has been banned due to reports of it being a domain that is spammy or unsafe.  This is what content sharing users will receive if they try and use the domain:

This means that you may need to manually share to Facebook since many FB buttons on blogs and websites have either been altered to use bit.ly or came as a default.
