Instagram is growing at a rapid rate, well surpassing the time in which it took current leaders within the Social Media world such as Facebook and Twitter. To put it in perspective, currently Instagram has 80 million users, just shy of 100 million users. It took Facebook four years after launching to reach this goal; Twitter gained this size in a five year span after its initial launch. How long has it taken Instagram? Since it is already at 80 million, this niche photo sharing social site will most likely hit the 100 million user mark before it is even two years old.
This is pretty impressive for an app, as it had thus far only been useable via a mobile phone, unlike Facebook or Twitter; they have been accessible from the web and more recently as added apps. Instagram has yet to even hit the web, sure there are sites that allow its users to review data and have created ways to see what is happening on Instagram such as statigram and webstagram etc, but Instagram itself is not navigational via the web.
Intagrams expansion since its launch date in October of 2010 has brought its platform to Android as well as iOS users and as of April of this year, Facebook’s acquisition of Instagram brought the app to 30 million users.
The truly magnificent part is through these actions, Instagram’s user base has grown by 166%.
How fast is Instagram Growing?
In just a six month span from September 2011 to March 2012 Instagram gained 15 million users. Then in a two month span from April and May of this year, they gained 20 million more users and most recently from June and July, Instagram tacked on another 30 million users, increasing their user base by 10 million in yet another two month period.
Clearly photos are not dead. Mobile technology is booming and with 4 billion photos that can instantaneously have you glide around the world and see the globe through the eyes of the mobile photographer its easy navigation, ability to share on other social networks while still enabling its users to socialize on its platform through comments and the “heart” system has given Instagram… instasuccess.
