History in the Making: Public Pricing Offering from Facebook Sits at $38

History in the Making Public Pricing Offering from Facebook Sits at 38

Today is a day of History.

That is correct, whether we think now is the time for us to buy Facebook stock or not, we cannot argue the historic factor that is happening today. Today happens to be a day when Social Media opens its doors even further within its realm of business and will be officially offering 421,233,615 shares of its common stock at a price to the public of $38 per share.

The trading of shares is expected to happen on the NASDAQ Global Select Market, under the symbol “FB.” Closing of the offering is expected to occur on May 22, 2012, subject to customary closing conditions. This means that today Mark Zuckerberg, the creator and CEO of Facebook could possibly be richer than Oprah and the Queen, and a day many businesses may benefit tremendously from the Facebook windfall. It will most likely have effect on them first and in time the smaller investors will see if they hit the jackpot or not.

Many speculations and coverage has occurred surrounding the FB stock and whether you should invest your money or not at this point, but let us not forget how our communication continues to evolve, how Facebook breathes hope to start-up’s and has initiated a social web overall.

Today, history will be in the making, regardless of the turnout (although, we hope for the best), just another step for the Social Media giant, one that continues to move us forward.

What People Share: Why Talking is Your Key to Spreading Your Brand

What People Share Why Talking is Your Key to Spreading Your Brand

In a recent video delivered by a representative in the Product Development Team at Facebook, Paul Adams, cleverly dissects how we truly can increase interactions when using Facebook for Marketing. As you will see in the video below, Adams discusses why talking is easier than sharing, what causes social norms and how we react to lightweight interactions more so than in-depth status updates.

The video includes how our content spreads (not using viral) but spreading due to 80% of us who talk to the same 4-5 people, which sounds very small, but based on the reasons it spreads, one being that we talk to people who we are closest to and the other being that we talk with people who are like us.

Targeting one person triggers a ripple effect since what you are talking about intrigues that one person will most likely interest the people they are closest to due to the simple fact that they are similar to one another.  Although we are a click and go society, there are some things still worth sitting down and watching, this video is one of them.

The Fifth Estate Canadian TV Show Goes Interactive for the First Time in History

On Friday’s season finale of the Canadian Investigative show, The Fifth Estate, they, for the very first time in history enabled their audience members to interactive while the show aired. This meant they could answer a poll of a real-life kidnapping during commercial breaks that would let viewers decide what to do to catch the perpetrators each step of the way.

Although eerie, it seems to be a futuristic approach or glimpse in how Traditional Media such as Television, will begin utilizing the web as a means to connect even further with audiences.

Pinterest Updating Their Terms of Service Removing Content Selling and More!

Pinterest Updating Their Terms of Service Removing Content Selling and More!

There has been much controversy and discussion after the discovery that when pinning content to Pinterest you were agreeing to sell it. This sparked many debates on the intentions of the site after its popularity rose in late 2011.

Much like the out pouring disappointment Facebook caused in their Privacy Policy, when enough people disapprove, changes will occur and as it has time and again with Facebook, Pinterest is following suit.

In the past few weeks Pinterest has heard Pinners from around the world complain about the Terms of Service, especially the part where the content must be your own creation and then by using the site you were foregoing your rights to your own creations.

Other than the TOS, the site does not state this anywhere else as well as the type of content you are allowed to pin. In fact, the site projects itself as a platform for self-expression of interests, interests you can share with other like-minded people and form conversations and connections through the pin’s comments. This meant that for the majority of users they would scan the Internet for images that suited a specific interest and create a board to pin to, and many, meaning the majority. Therefore it was less of an advertising site and more a site for mutual commonalities.

Revving Up Technology: States Making Way for Driverless Cars

Revving Up Technology: States Making Way for Driverless Cars

We have all been guilty. Our cell phone beeps from the front passenger seat of our car. Running late to work, we try to choke down coffee and a bagel over the steering wheel. We discipline our squabbling children in the back seat.

What we’re not thinking about, while we address these needs that seem so pressing, is how dangerous distracted driving is. The National Highway Safety Administration says that a quarter of reported car accidents are caused by such distractions.

Automakers are in the process of developing a solution that might seem like science fiction. Driverless cars, however, are becoming a reality, and are even street legal in Nevada. This infographic illustrates the technological components that give these vehicles their autonomy. It also shows legislation working its way through Florida and Hawaii to join Nevada in legalizing self-driving cars.

How Social Media Has Changed Modern Business

How Social Media Has Changed Modern BusinessSocial Media has become a huge communication tool. While it was once used as a way for teenagers and college kids to interact, it has become a huge asset to businesses. Whether you want to attract fans or connect with customers, companies like Facebook and Twitter allow you to do it in real time. Here are just a few of the ways social media has changed modern business.

Ability to Attract Fans and Followers

Customers have always been loyal to brands, even before there were brands. However, Twitter and Facebook gave customers a chance to show their loyalty by following or becoming a fan of the company. This gives companies a chance to build relationships with their customers on a huge level. For example, Coca-Cola has over 500,000 followers on Twitter and over a million fans on Facebook.

Immediate Access to Customers

You no longer have to rush out a press release to reach your customers. Social Media sites make it possible to reach your customers in real time. For example, let’s say you want to have a sale, right now. You can post a Tweet on Twitter and watch the money roll in. You can even say that the deal is for Twitter fans only and watch the money roll in even faster.
